From Sepilok

Coming straight from the orangutan centre — the classic 'rehabilitation then wild' transition into Danum.

Step by step

The route, honestly described

1. Finish at Sepilok. The rehabilitation and sun bear centres and the RDC sit together near Sandakan — a morning's birding and the 10am feeding, then move on.

2. Travel to Lahad Datu. Overland from the Sandakan area to Lahad Datu, or via a KK connection; either way it's a travel day, so start early.

3. Transfer into Danum. Meet your lodge at Lahad Datu and drive in — 2–2.5 hours, last 80-odd km gravel. Details on the Lahad Datu route page.

Remember the conservation area's entry conditions — travel insurance including emergency evacuation is required, and forest walks are guide-accompanied.
