Experiences

Days that start before dawn

Everything in Danum Valley runs on the forest's clock — dawn on the walkway, the river at noon, eyeshine after dark.

The Canopy Walkway

Around 300 metres of walkway, 26 metres up — eye level with hornbills, gibbons and the morning mist. Best at first light from Borneo Rainforest Lodge.

At Borneo Rainforest Lodge

Night safari

Open-top drives and guided night walks: civets, flying squirrels, slow loris, Wallace's flying frog — and, for the fortunate, a clouded leopard.

Lodge & Study Centre

Guided treks & waterfalls

Fairy Falls, Serpent Falls, Tembaling, the Coffin Cliff burial site and the natural jacuzzi pool — always with a ranger or guide, as the reserve requires.

All three lodges

Birdwatching

All eight Bornean hornbills, seven pittas, the bristlehead and 300+ species. Sunrise at Bukit Atur and the ~33 m tower are the classic sessions.

Best from the Study Centre

Wildlife watching

Wild orangutans, pygmy elephants, sun bears and ten primate species — no feeding platforms, no fences, no guarantees. That is the point.

Across the valley

River & waterholes

Tubing and gentle cruises on the Danum, the suspension bridge over the Segama, and pools worth the walk.

Conservation up close

Visit INFAPRO's nurseries, join a researcher's morning round, plant a tree with your name on it — tended for five years after you fly home.

Private wildlife photography expeditions

Built around the light, not the schedule

A private guide, a private vehicle, and itineraries paced for photographers — one-week Danum intensives across the Lodge and Study Centre, or two-week Sabah circuits adding the Kinabatangan, Sepilok and Tabin. Hides, canopy platforms, night drives with spotlight, dawn starts as early as you like, and protected-area rules respected throughout.

The wildlife & birds databases

Species-by-species pages — status, where and when to see each in Danum, behaviour, galleries and related itineraries — built as a searchable database that scales to hundreds of species. The pattern is proven in the site search today.
