River & waterholes

The Danum and Segama rivers are the forest's slow avenues.

What it is

River & waterholes, properly done

The Danum and Segama rivers are the forest's slow avenues. Tubing drifts you past kingfishers and monitor lizards; gentle cruises open the canopy overhead; and the natural pools are the finest possible end to a trek.

What you'll see

Kingfishers, hornbills crossing the river corridor, monitor lizards on the banks, and — at dawn and dusk — whatever comes down to drink.

Best time & conditions

River levels shift with the rains: tubing is best at moderate flow, and your guides call it day by day. Pools are at their clearest in drier spells.
